January 31, 2018 – Bobby Truitt and Lannie Milliman recently defended Farmers Insurance Company in a wrongful death case that involved a fire. The insured was the owner of the duplex that caught on fire, and there was testimony that the duplex was not in conformity with the Building Codes. The case was tried for a week in Livingston Parish, and while the jury found that there were defects in the premises, they found that this did not cause of contribute to the decedent’s death.
June 15, 2017 – The Truitt Law Firm, LLC was recently successful in having two separate cases, which were over five years old, dismissed where the plaintiffs were pro se. First, the cases were transferred to our firm from other firms, and we immediately set out to get these cases dismissed for two of our premier clients, Rent A Center and FFE Trucking. Secondly, any attorney will tell you that dealing with pro se plaintiffs can be a nightmare – not what you might expect. We are proud of the fact that we understand the need to move all cases to a conclusion on an efficient and cost-effective basis.

December 23, 2016 – The Truitt Law Firm, LLC was successful on appeal in case that they tried involving allegations that their client, a homeowner’s association, breached its fiduciary duty to rebuild timely. Read more
December 15, 2016 – Bobby Truitt has been named to the YMCA of Greater New Orleans Board of Trustees and selected to lead the Board of Directors for the West St. Tammany YMCA. November 30, 2016 – The firm was successful in defending a landlord against the claims of an artist for over $500,000.00 in artwork that the artist claimed was destroyed by a leaking AC. The Trial Court found that the plaintiff could not prove his case since the water did not come from the AC, within scientific certainty, according to the defendants’ expert, Dr. Jennifer Mass, a world renown art expert. August 16, 2016 – Due to the extensive flooding in southeast Louisiana, the Governor has suspended prescription (statute of limitations) from August 12, to September 9, 2016. This will impact cases which would be required to be filed during this time period. Read more

March 9, 2016 – Bobby Truitt and Ryan Kelley secured a “zero verdict” for Darden Restaurants (Olive Garden) after a three day jury trial in St. Tammany Parish. The case involved an alleged slip and fall by a customer who was being escorted to her table. The plaintiff requested almost $300,000.00 in damages in closing argument.

January 31, 2013 – Jack E. (Bobby) Truitt obtained a $200,000 verdict for Family Dollar in a breach of lease case tried in Ruston, Louisiana (Lincoln Parish). The jury found that the landlord did not honor its lease obligations to keep the building in good repair and that Family Dollar lost profits because of this.

January 10, 2011 – Jack E. (Bobby) Truitt has been named to CityBusiness’ Leadership in Law Class of 2011. He is one of 50 honorees based on his professional and community contributions; CityBusiness noted that his inclusion in this year’s class “was no easy task as this year’s field was a very competitive class and another record breaker for nominations. (Bobby) Truitt of The Truitt Law Firm, LLC, L.L.C. in New Orleans, Louisiana recently obtained a summary judgment for Walgreens in a case where the plaintiff alleged that various pharmacies had filled prescriptions for Depakote, which allegedly resulted in birth defects for her then-unborn child.
