Many drivers here in the U.S. seem to be unable to stay off the phone behind the wheel. A recent report suggests this type of distracted driving is particularly common among Louisiana drivers.
The report made estimates regarding how many times the average driver in the different states uses their phone during a drive. The report found the average amount of behind-the-wheel phone use for Louisiana drivers to be 2.41 times per trip.
This is well above the national average. It is also the second-highest estimated amount of phone use while driving in the whole country.
The report estimated the level of behind-the-wheel cellphone use in New Orleans to be even higher than that of the state as a whole. It put the average amount of phone use by New Orleans drivers at 2.78 times per trip.
A driver’s decision to use the phone when out on the roads can have massive ramifications for others. Very serious accidents can come out of this type of distracted driving.
