Louisiana man injured after being shot in the chest with an arrow

Perhaps the only predictable thing about life is its unpredictability. Very few people predict that they will suffer a catastrophic injury. But that is exactly what happened to one reveler in New Orleans this past weekend. While the man was out and about in the Lower 9th Ward, he sustained a critical injury to his chest—where he was struck by an arrow.

A critical injury

According to New Orleans police, the Louisiana man was severely wounded after being shot in the chest with an arrow. The incident took place late Sunday evening or early Monday morning. The 51-year-old victim was in the Lower 9th Ward with other revelers when he sustained his injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is still in critical condition. The victim’s name and other identifying details have not yet been released. New Orleans Police are also withholding other details about the case, including how or why the incident took place.

Mardi Gras mayhem

The incident has struck a nerve for many NOLA residents. The city’s annual, week-long Mardi Gras celebration was marked by several incidents of violence, including gunfire along popular parade routes. Indeed, police initially mistakenly reported the arrow incident as a shooting. Authorities report that over 20 people sustained gunfire-relate injuries during the weeklong celebration.

Unpredictable injuries

Sustaining an injury is the last thing that anyone expects when having fun at Mardi Gras or any other celebration. However, as this incident shows, injuries can happen at the most unpredictable times. Anyone who suffers a catastrophic injury is advised to seek medical treatment, contact Louisiana authorities and consider their legal options.
