It is sometimes amazing to think of the many different things in place to keep drivers and their passenger safe. Some people may even overlook the number of lives that are saved by preventing motor vehicle accidents with something as simple as a stop sign. Unfortunately, a Louisiana woman recently lost her life in an accident.
The incident happened one evening on a day in early August. According to reports, a 17-year-old female driver failed to yield at a stop sign. As a result, her sedan reportedly struck a pickup truck hauling a boat. The truck then entered into oncoming traffic, striking another vehicle head on.
One of the passengers in the third vehicle involved, a 71-year-old woman, died at the scene as a result of injuries suffered in the accident. The driver of her vehicle, a 72-year-old man, suffered moderate injuries. The two other drivers involved suffered minor injuries. Though the teen driver was initially issued a citation for failure to yield, additional charges are expected to be filed. Police say that everyone involved in the accident was properly restrained at the time of the collision.
When in a rush, it may be easy to overlook the potential hazards of failing to obey a traffic sign. However, as this case appears to prove, such an oversight can come with tragic consequences. Now, a Louisiana family is left coping with the news of the unexpected and likely preventable death of their loved one.
