Amber Mitchell was raised in Natchitoches, Louisiana. After graduating from high school, Amber attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Business Administration. Thereafter, she pursued a Master of Science in Finance at LSU, E.J. Ourso College of Business, became a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society and graduated in May 2000. Amber then obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Southern University Law Center graduating cum laude in May 2003.

After graduating from law school, she moved to St. Tammany Parish with her family. In her early years of practice, she handled domestic, bankruptcy, personal injury and general contract cases. She then worked with a firm practicing insurance defense and subrogation litigation. Thereafter, she joined the Twenty-second Judicial District Court Public Defender's office working in the juvenile, non-support, and child in need of care divisions of court. Upon leaving the Public Defender's office, she served as staff attorney and hearing officer to the Honorable Dawn Amacker in the Twenty-second Judicial District Court. Amber then pursued another opportunity to represent the State of Louisiana, Office of Juvenile Justice handling agency litigation in various jurisdictions throughout the State and in Civil Service matters. After twelve years of practicing law the opportunity arose for her to join the Truitt Law Firm in the summer of 2016.

Amber was admitted to the Louisiana State Bar Association in December 2003; the United States District Court, Eastern District in June 2004. She participated in the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel trial academy, the National Criminal Defense College trial practice institute, and obtained her certification in mediation training. She is a graduate of Leadership St. Tammany, and a member of the Twenty-second Judicial District Court bar association.

Amber resides in Covington with her son and daughter.
